Adjusting Mechanical Fork

I have some Insync 323 Forks on my Trek 4300 bikes. (I have 2) One of them seems to never get tight when I try and "stiffen" the fork. (turn it clockwise)

For that matter I guess the other one (fork on other bike) really never does either. I guess my question is.........when you tighten these "mechanical" forks should they ever get completely tight to where you can no longer tighten them?

It feels like tightening a screw that is stripped out, it gets tighter than seems to get easier. It just never gets TIGHT. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

P.S. I know these forks are not great but they are fine with me. Thanks.

Your talking about tightening the adjusters on the top caps right? Usually the caps have some kind of plunger that pushes the spring stack or whatever is inside down farther. This is called preload. It should stop turning at some point because plunger cant go down forever. What you should do is take the caps off completely and inspect them to see why the knob keeps turning.

If what klein mentions is the case, which it's more than like is. You probably have stripped something in the fork.
