Triple shifting delay

I have a stock 2005 Lemond Buenos Aires set up with a campy triple and a long cage Centaurm rear derailleur. I am having some trouble with the rear not always shifting on demand. The shift can be delayed by 10 to 60 seconds with the thumb lever in the mid gears only. I though that it would break in but after 15,000 miles, although the shifting has gotten much smoother I still have the delay in the mid range gears. All other shifting is fast and smooth. I took it in to a LBS to have it looked at and all they did was goop the whole drive train up with oil, this made no change to the shifting. Is this the nature of triples? Any advice is welcome

The rear derailleur doesn't care if the front is a double or a triple. I would disconnect the cable and make sure that it is smooth, clean and slightly lubed, and free of any kinks. Then using the instructions on the Park Tools website, set it back up as if it was a brand new install.

This might be explained by excess friction in the shift cable and cable housing. Check for possible kinks in the housing or other routing problems. Consider replacing the shift cables and housings. It's common for the short housing found at the rear derailleur to pick up dirt, crud, or water causing excess friction. The length of the short housing is critical and should not be shortened when installed.

I would check the gear cable ferrules.
If they have cracks in them
they jam the cable beside the frame.
will upshift...but will be slow to down shift

Does it ever skip a shift or shift two gears?

Since you've had it back to the shop I'm assuming they have played with the cable tension until they pulled their hair out. When that happens, the first thing that I do is to check the derailleur hanger alignment with a gauge. Most of the time, that fixes it.

Thank you all for your input, I have a better understanding of my problem and
Its reassuring to know that I should not have this shifting problem. Its
strange that the shifting is fine in all the gears but 2.

It wouldn't hurt anything to give the shifters a good shot of WD40. It does wonders for Shimano STI shifters and it won't hurt your Campy shifters.
