What to do about powdercoating?
I just got a frame back from powder coating and I think I might be in some trouble. They were supposed to tape everything off, but they obviously did not. Here are some pics:
Any ideas on what I will have to do? I thought I might need to get the bottom bracket faced and the threads chased, but is the headtube going to give me problems? If it is, what can I do about it? This is the first frame I've had this done, but they told me they've done many bikes so I thought they would know what to do.
The hanger isn't sitting snugly either. Is sand paper capable of taking care of that?
What do you guys all think? Thanks.

Hey. You could probably repair the threads with a thread chaser and you may be able to sand the rest of your problems away with sandpaper. Otherwise I would take it back to the people and ask them about the problem. Hope it works out though.

When they face the BB and chase the threads it will be taken care of. Same for the head tube. You might have to invest in a tap to chase all the small threads. Even a paint job has similar problems. I don't think it's nearly as bad as you think. How does the coating look everywhere else?

1) Face the headtube
2) Face the bb
For starters, the dropout/cable stop areas look sort of thick so you won't really know until you try and put something in there.

Unless they were a bike specific powdercoat they'd probably laugh in your face. The op basically needs 3 things
1) Face the headtube
2) Face the bb

Take a sanding wheel of a dremel and clean up the drop outs. A good shop will have taps and facers for the BB. You may have to pay for the facers for your headtube as most shops probably won't have facers for integrated headtubes.

Just as an update for anyone interested:
I took it into a shop, had the BB faced and the threads chased. I was expecting to have to do that, so it's no big deal. I called the powder coaters and explained the situation. They apologized about the headtube and offered to let me bring it back and they would take care of it. The place isn't close, so they told me how to clean it up myself. All I needed was paint stripper, about $6 at the depot. It worked great. The paint just bubbles up and you scrape it off. I used it on the dropouts, the headtube and the where the RD hanger sits. Everything fits fine, and when it's done I'll throw up some pics. Thanks for the help.
