why change your cranks
Noob here, what's the big deal with cranks. Why would someone change theirs? What's to be gained? How are great cranks different that stock cranks. Why would someone buy an expensive bike and spend a lot of money to change the cranks. Don't expensive bikes have great cranks?

I went to a pro bike fitter and the crank arms were too large. So I changed them. Plus a lot of other things.

The size (length) thing of the crank arms is bogus and anyone can use any size cranks, you just readjust in the shiftiing/gearing, front chainrings/rear cogs and the seat height. If you are a spinner, you may want to have a shorter crank arm length but still can go with anyone.

Its one of two ways to change the gearing of your bike. Either you change the rear cassette, or you change the crankset (go to a compact crankset, or a triple, or etc). Cassettes are cheaper, but some riders need to change both to get a big enough change in gearing.

I changed from triple to double just becuase I wanted a double. I also needed a couple a new chainrings and found a whole new comparable new in box crankset for what two new chainrings would have cost. So I bought the crankset.
