Salsa CroMoto SUL stem recall
If anyone has a Salsa CroMoto "Stiff Upper Lip" stem, it's probably a good idea to stop riding, 'cause the stems are subject to a recall. This is a part that, if it fails, the result could be catastrophic.
As the owner of a Casseroll equipped with the offending stem, I gotta say that at least they recalled them while the weather is still too crappy for my taste.
I posted this elsewhere, but figured it would have more effect here.

Thanks
That would explain why I haven't been able to purchase one. A couple site would "offer" them, have a picture and a price, but the order would never go through. I had read that these were one of the "safe" quill stems with a removable face plate. I had a TTT Motus stem with a removable face plate that cracked. I replaced the plate and am currently riding it, but keeping an eye on it. I got the Motus because I like the removable face plate feature and it looks good. I see several other quill stems with the removable plate, but they look like crap. I guess I'll have to either switch to one of these and deal with a bad looking stem, or go back to to the single bolt, no face plate stems.

Does anyone have specific details on the recall? I can't just take mine to a bike shop, I live in Italy.
What are the recall procedures? Inspect, then replace if cracked? Straight swap? Am I going to get a part back in ginger beer color?
I bought the bike through Jenson, I guess I'll have to contact them, but if it's just an inspection then I've already done it.

I bought my Salsa at a shop that is no longer listed as an "authorized" Salsa dealer, so I contacted Salsa. They advised me that because their parts are available through QBP, I could take the bike to any LBS. Salsa would give the shop a credit toward a replacement stem.
I don't know if that's how it would work in a country other than the USA.
I'm not sure, but I got the impression that I could NOT replace it with another "ginger beer" color stem (too bad...I thought that was a nice touch on my Casseroll.
