Finding part

I found a junk bike. The frame is solid as well ass the handle bars, but the rest of the bike is very iffy. I've already taken the thing apart and I'm planning on putting it back together as a singlespeed or fixed gear, however I don't want to buy brand new parts if I can help it as this will be a beater bike. Any suggestions?

Not unless you have more specific questions.

Perhaps you could post a picture of the bike.

bike co-ops and recycleries can be good for cheap, used parts. You might want to make a reasonable donation, though.

It's usually cheaper to buy a whole bike that has parts you want to keep. Rarely worth buying everything to outfit a mediocre frame.

That's truer now than ever before. I'm tempted to buy a bike or two for $200 or $300 each at Target (or some such) just for the parts. And there's a danger that I'll end up liking the bike.

Co-ops are great for parts. It can be tough finding the right stuff sometimes, but when you do you can get good old stuff for a few bucks, particularly the obsolete stuff you can't get at a shop.
