After extensive research on this topic, I have settled on:
78% nitrogen
21% oxygen
1% water vapor

It has the best combination of smooth ride, and lowest rolling resistance of anything I have tried.:thumb:

How about using Hydrogen?

It goes well with those mylar innertubes.

You should sprinkle in a pinch of:

CO2
He
Ar
Kr
Xe
Ne
Rn

Best mix available.

Don't forget the price.

That's absurd. Did he fill the tires to a much higher pressure with the nitrogen? That's the only way it could have made any noticable difference.

Don't know but he is a better wrench and rider than probably anyone here so I value his observations.
Absurd? Try it yourself and them report back.:thumb:

So ah, did your friend document this nitrogen in bike-tyre experiment? Double-blind study? Did he quantify "hasher" and "rougher" in numerical terms?

I've done the same and can tell you that nitrogen at the same pressure feels exactly the same as air at the same pressure. Not surprising considering that air is 78% nitrogen to begin with. And no, I haven't gotten my bike tyres up to 220F where it starts to over-pressurize like with auto-tyres... nor do I want to try that either...

Your faith in him is touching but what he and you reported is patent nonsense. He may be a "better wrench and rider that (sic) probably anyone here..." but he failed physics.

Hey, whenaminotme?, still think the thread is closed?
