stripped pinch bolt

Stripped out the pinch bolt hole on my 9speed rear dr (DA)----Helicoil popped out the back---are these factory fitted?( I bought it sh so I guess the previous owner may have fitted it)
How hard is it to re-do,and would I have to re-tap the hole
Lucky I have a spare bike so I can still ride until I figure it

Thanks

Try to get a new bolt for it - and have it re-tapped. But these things are alloy and require a torque of 48 - 60 psi. If it can't be fixed - a new RD is in order.

This is yet another reason to get one's paws on a torque-wrench, or two. If you'd like an Ultegra RD-6500 GS for 1/2 price - new - take a look here:

Good Luck!

New derailleurs don't come with Helicoils so this is apparently the second failure. The factory bolt is M5x.8 so you could retap it M6x1.0 or even 1/4"-28 unless the Helicoil repair required oversizing the hole too far for those threads.

Another fix is to get a slightly longer bolt and use a nut on the other side of the clamp area.
