SPD cleat thread stripped, in the shoe, repairable??

SPD cleat thread stripped, in the shoe, repairable??
cant believe it, stripped the thread tightening my SPD cleat into Northwave shoes.
(not completely my fault i think it was a bit weak, ive tightened cleats ok before)
is there something you can slide in there? or something else that can be done?
i would love to take the shoes back, but im sure they wont co-operate.

I'm not sure you can do much. Those plates in the shoes don't have much material, nor are they very deep. I vaguely recall replacing a shoe plate by accessing it from the inside, by peeling the liner and padding back. In my case (they were mountain biking shoes), I had the luxury of rotating the plate 180 degrees so I can use two different mounting locations.

SPD cleat mounting plates that come with Shimano shoes are removable and reversable. They also have two sets of mounting holes. Remove the insole and peel back or cut away any seals over the cleat plate area and see if the plate can be removed and replaced or just turned end-for-end to use new holes.
Any bike dealer should have replacement mounting plates, for low cost or even free.

The SPD's I'm familiar with have a second set of holes in the attachment plate. With the cleat off see if there is an extra set of threaded holes in the plate inside the shoe. If not your LBS should be able to run a tap through the threads to straighten them out or re-tap a slightly larger hole and use a slightly larger screw.

Not the point, the fact is they will replace the plate with a new one if you send it in. They have the plate and the means to take it apart and put it back together and while at it replace things they see that are an issue so you will get back a very nice pair of shoes.
