Time atac maintenance

Hello,

I've searched around the net, but haven't found a good answer yet... I'm looking at the time atac carbon pedals, but it is unclear how easy they are to maintain. I'm also looking at speedplay frogs, which are easy to regrease. Are the time atacs easy tokeep well greased? Do they need to be?

Thanks!

I have 9000mi on my time atacs and they still spin smooth. I would overhaul them but why bother. Oh and I ride them road not mountain. Check this video out

There are different kinds too. Instead of the snap ring (like in the vid and article) mine uses a metal retainer cap that simply spins off if you clamp it softly in a park tool stand and turn the pedal, that way you don't need to buy a special tool for overhauling them. They use a bearing cartridge so you could in theory just order new cartridges and be done with it. I highly recommend atacs.

On the speedplay frog I can say this. Their cleats wear out MUCH faster, and when they wear you can have problems un clipping. A rider friend of mine has some, after a year or two he was sometimes spotted tipping over at a red lights because he was unable to unclip (he is a cat 3 racer so he IS experienced). My time cleats have lasted 3 years but probably need to be replaced but work perfectly every clip/unclip. Frogs are lighter and I think have the grease fitting but thats about all the pros I can think of. Thats my opinion.
