if you have to remove the fixed cup (it is called that for a reason) the best method is to loosen it first. if you still have the BB in there is tool made to hold the fixed cup wrench in place.
I don't understand why you would put the frame on the floor to this unless you had a real lousy stand. |

trust me, we see tons of seized cups in my shop, and for the longest time i've been using all the other methods mentioned in this thread: the bench vise, the long he-man adjustable wrench (i have a 3 footer at the shop). sheldon's tool works well too, but i have destroyed at least one cup using it (the washer sheared the surface of the cup) the tool in your pic does indeed look like it would give sufficient leverage, and i assume it does have a way of being secured to the bottom bracket shell. do you have pics of the tool on a bike, or dissassembled? this isn't a park tool. what's the brand? http://www.velobase.com/VeloImages/T...1A4D2A359.jpeg The fixed cup sits in the jaw of the tool: http://os2.dhs.org/~john/793a-1.jpg The spindle threads onto the tool to hold the cup, and the whole works cranks into the frame: http://os2.dhs.org/~john/793a-2.jpg A cheater pipe can optionally be slid over the handle for additional leverage. |
