I am finally building a carbon frame I had sitting around. I purchased Sampson Stratics brakes for the bike and just reaslized they have a serrated washer which from what I understand should not be used with carbon (althought the braking areas ae reinforced). Can I just mount them with no washer? Any potential issues?

You can substitute with a nonserrated washer if you're worried. Just make sure the brake doesn't pivot on easily with the nut at the correct torque.

The washer helps protect the frame and keeps the brake properly aligned. I would use a washer, but not the serrated one.

I've mounted Shimano brakes on two Easton Carbon forks and used a smooth faced 2 mm thick aluminum washer between the front of the fork and the rear of the caliper pivot bolt. I've had no problems with the calipers rotating or going out of center.
