How Much Cable Housing?

Doing bar end shifters on a large frame. Aero brakes. About how much cable housing will I need? Yeah, I need to get some string and pace it off.

Make sure you don't mix up the housing. Shifter housing will not work as brake housing.

With friction you just get brake housing and use whatever cable, no?

Assuming cable stops on the downtube, get 7 feet of shift cable, just to be safe. 6 foot would probably do. A standard kit for brake/shift levers only has 5 feet that can be cut into two lengths of 2 feet for use at the bars, leaving 1 foot for the RD loop.

If you friction shift you can use brake cable housing for brakes and derailleurs. I just buy QBP brand in 25' pieces from Lickton's for $17. https://www.lickbike.com/productpage....B='1522-01' This way you have spare for another bike and don't have to concern yourself with having too little.

No. Shifter and brake housing are different diameters.

I just redid a Schwinn Sports Tourer with Suntour bar end shifters. The $5 Wal-Mart cable kit had enough of everything to do the complete bike. Roger
