I'm looking to put together a flatbar Campy equipped bike. The supply of Campy flatbar shifter is almost Zero. I even emailed Probikekit and they don't stock them. So, I'm thinking about SRAM gripshifters, 9 sp, with a Jtek.

Does anyone have any real world experience with it?

J-tek is out of production, so the shiftmates won't be available for long. Even the J-tek will not make a shifter that has uniform pulls operate a Campy RD properly, so it's best to match the shifter and RD, then use the shiftmate to correct the RD travel.

WOW, I'm so sorry to hear he's sick. My mother-inlaw had that. It isn't a good way to go, actually, nothing is. Makes my shifter problem seem insignificant in comparison. My prayers are with him.

HUGE bummer about J-tek. Cs1, Davinci Tandems sells modified Sram RDs to work with Campy shifters. That might get you most of what you wanted, anyway.

I've really been interested in SRAM lately. Problem is I have 2 complete Campy equipped bikes and 3 wheelsets. So, for me it's economics. If I sold off all Campy parts I might be able to buy 1 complete SRAM build kit. Not really feasible.

I must be the only person not to like any of srams road groups. Up/down shift on one lever = ********.

I suppose that once you get used to it they aren't so bad but they would be dreadful if you routinely switched between them and a Campy or Shimano equipped bike. SRAM had to do something really different to get around the blanket-like patent coverage Shimano and Campy have on brifter designs.

My objection to SRAM road groups (and now Campy) is that they offer no triple cranks at any level. And, no, a compact isn't a suitable substitute.

I have a Campy road bike and a Shimano touring bike.
I switch back and forth between the two all the time.
When switching from one to the other I might try to push a non-existent mouse ear on the Shimano,
or try to push the Campy brake lever, but after a couple blocks into the ride, I adapt and have no further issue.

AFAIK Campy still offers the Comp Triple.

Campy doesn't offer much, but they still have one triple crank, BB and FD. Any 10 speed shifter and medium or long cage RD will work with a triple. The long cage is only needed with a 13-29.

I used Campy triples for several years, but never their cranks because they didn't offer the 53/39/30 or 53/39/28 that I wanted. I had good luck with FSA ISIS cranks, but those are no longer made either.

It won't be long before a 50/34 with a 12-29 11 speed is available from Campy. The low gear is a little lower than a 30/25, so it will match some triples.

I'm aware of the Comp Triple but it annoys me that they dropped all of their "name" group triples. I have an '06 Chorus triple set-up on one bike that I love and wish something like it were still available.

Mine is geared 53/42/26 (the 26 was my substitution) and I'm very content with the gear selection. I realize a 34x29 is quite low but a triple gets you lower still and doesn't leave large gaps in the rest of the gearing.

Campy doesn't make any cassette with large jumps, particularly 11 speed. They are all straight block up to the 17, at the minimum, then it goes 19-21-23-25-27 or 19-21-23-26-29 (when the 12-29 comes out).

Of course a 50/12 is about the same a 53/13, so if more top gear is needed, you can't have that too.

It isn't the jumps in the cassette that I am concerned about, just the big gap between the chainrings in a compact. 53/42 is a 126% jump while a 50/34 is 147%.

Top end is the least of my worries (). My current gearing is the triple I mentioned with a 10-speed 13x29 cassette and I rarely use the 13 so anything taller would be a waste.

There's a high and low end triple group isn't there? I was under the impression that higher version is Chorus quality.
