Gears shifting randomly....
I have a 7 speed hybrid I bought about a month ago. It was having some issues and I brought it into where I bought it for adjustment where they did a free full tune up for me. they retrued the tires, and supposedly adjusted the breaks.
I am still having problems when shifting.
I have a SRAM MRX Grip shift , and sometimes when I shift (always while pedaling) it doesn't shift, and then 3 minutes later it does.... and then 2 minutes later it shifts something again...
Bike: 2009 Fuji Crosstown 4.0 Women's Comfort Bike
Cassette: Fuji 13-34T 7-speed
Chain: Sunrace CNM54-Y
Crankset: ProWheel Composite Resin/Steel, 44T
Rear Derailleur: Sunrace RDM4S 7-speed, Mega Range
it basically doesn't always shift right away/shifts when I don't tell it to. i am never really sure if it is in the gear that I told it to be in.
I can still ride with no problems, it is just really annoying to get a different amounts of pedeling tension as I am just riding along.
what is the problem? can I fix it myself?

Probably just a cable stretch issue. You can either learn to adjust yourself (the Park Tools website has good instructions) or take it back to the shop and have them correct it.

If the shifting issue is evident when shifting to higher (smaller) gears, then it might only be a matter of too little cable tension. Cable housing settles in and frequently needs some fine adjustment after a few miles. If you feel confident and cabable, this is an easy adjustment via the barrel adjuster. parktool.com and other sites have instructions on this.
If the shifting is a problem when shifting to lower (larger) gears, then it could be too much cable tension, or there may be excessive friction on the cable in either the cable housing or in the shifter.
A worn chain or cassette can also be the problem, but that shouldn't be the issue on a new bike purchased recently.
Did you explain this problem when you brought it in for service? Since it's still new, you might just want to take it in again and tell them that it's still ghost shifting. The diagnose and repair might be more involved if the cable is faulty, the shifter's defective or the original installation was poor.
