Removing Missing Link on KMC Chains

I have always used Wippermann chains and the tool less master link goes on and off quite readily. I just purchased my first KMC chain, and struggled to get the missing link to lock which it finally did. I then discovered that I had stupidly threaded the chain incorrectly. According to the instructions for removing the missing link, one is supposed to press the plates together of the link while pushing the links towards one another to open it. I have tried and tried, and I cannot seem to make the think even budge towards the opening position. Any ideas by those of you who use KMC chains with the missing link? Thanks.

Park MLP-1. It basically squeezes the two links together - makes short work of any/all quicklinks. You can probably improvise a tool to do the same function. It would also be helpful to know what chain, and what KMC missinlink you are using.

Thanks so much - I just ordered one on eBay. I'm using the KMC X10sl with the link that comes with it.
