How to remove BB

Ok, so I have this Race Face Evolve BB on my MTB. How do I take it out? No instructions on raceface.com (only instructions on how to install) and I don't understand what the hell the Barnett manual is saying. I'm assuming it's not too hard but I don't want to screw anything up. Just some step by step instruction would be great. I asked the guy at my LBS, he said to remove the lockring from non-drive side first and then the thing just pulls out...how the hell does it do that if the other side is still threaded in?

Reverse of the install. Loosen lock ring, then remove cups from both sides. the cartridge will come out with one of the cups. You need a lockring tool (Hozan) to get the ring loose and a cartridge BB tool, isis compatible, to get the cups out.

I didn't see any lockring?? I was able to unthread both cups from each side, which I wasn't supposed to do apparently.

I've got a Raceface XC ISIS B/B and it doesn't have any lockrings, just a spacer ring on one side. You'll just need a raceface ISIS B/B tool and a spanner to unscrew the unit from both sides.

OK I have an ISIS BB tool and I can get the cups out, but the guy at the LBS said I wasn't supposed to remove them from both sides...doesn't make much sense to me. Anyways, once I have the cups out the BB is just sitting there and I have no clue how to get it out. Is this where the spanner comes in? I'm not quite sure what a spanner does to be frank.

There are no lockrings on current cartridge BB. The non fixed side is often refered to the lockring, but it removes with the same tool as the the fixed side.

You remove the nondrive side cup first with the removal tool and spanner(right hand thread). Then the cartridge unscrews from the drive side using the same removal too and spanner. It's english thread, so it loosens colckwise. It just can't get any easier that that. Repair section at www.parktool.com also has instructions. As another also said, removal is just the reverse of installation. The LBS guy should be swabbing toilets, not giving bike advice.

Thank you sydney, much clearer now. Just one more question. What do I need the spanner for?? I can get the cup out with just the BBT-2.

You don't need the spanner if you can remove the cups by hand. But they should not be that loose. You will need it to replace the BB and get it tight enough.

I don't remove them by hand, I remove them with a BBT-2! This is so confusing, everywhere I go tells me something different :/

A spanner is a wrench or other leverage device. You have to use one with the tool, if the BB is tightly installed or you want to install it tightly.
