Rear Brake Cable rattling on frame
Modern road bike, routes the cable underneath the top tube to the rear caliper. Brazed-on cable guides at either end of the top tube.
When I go over a bump, the cable bounced and rattles against the top tube--nothing critical, but it's annoying.
I've tried adding more tension to the cable to pick up the small amount of slack, but to no avail. Any ideas?

they have those little rubber grommets for the cables for that reason.

I have a bunch of donuts on there now. The donuts are striking the frame and pinging. I can't tape it down. It interferes with the cable motion.

My experience is that doughnuts are not always silent.

I tried both ways, with and without donuts. Without the donuts, the cable hits, with the donuts, the donuts hit. For some odd reason, the cable seems like it's too lose between the cable guides even though both the calipers and brake levers are returning properly.

I expect you have a fair bit of brake lever travel before the calipers move so there is slack that will allow a cable rattle.

Both calipers and brake levers have return springs these days so they will both come back to their rest positions even if the cable is slack when they are at rest

HillRider was right, as was mcgrievey. I re-tensioned the cable between the caliper and lever, which helped, but the donuts were still striking the frame occasionally. Removed the donuts and again made sure the cable between the caliper and lever was damn tight--seems to be better now.

All this talk about donuts is making me hungry.
