Routine maintenance

Can anyone give me the lowdown on what I should be doing for routine maintenance on a new road bike? I'm new to cycling and am a little unsure about what needs to be cleaned regularly, lubed, greased, etc etc.

Yea, this forum, and Sheldon Brown.
Basically, if it moves keep it clean and lubed.

Enjoy

Air and oil are the basic things. Pump up the tires and lube the chain regularly.

Preventative maintenance needs are pretty basic on a new road bike. Lube the chain lightly whenever it starts to make noise or "sound dry." There will be other maintenance issues as you go along like replacing derailleur cables/housing etc., but this is more of a yearly routine and largely dependent on our skill level.
