Rear Derailleur Sora --> Tiagra worth it?

Currently have Sora RD, I have an opportunity to score a brand new Tiagra RD for $25. Just wondering is it worth to switch. Not that the Sora is giving me issues....
BTW, the Tiagra RD is short cage. Do I need any modifications to the chain?

Stick with what works. My Sirrus has a Altus rear derailleur, and while I want a nicer one, it works right now just fine. So, its staying till it doesnt work fine. I replaced my front derailleur with a Tiagra, but only because I HAD to to get fenders to fit...

I vote to keep your $25, and wait till you need a new derailleur. Spend that $25 on something you do need...spare tubes, patch kit, tire irons, seat bag, micro-pump...if you dont already have that stuff.

Use the Sora 'til it breaks. Which might never happen, depending.

Agree with the posters - don't change it. A functioning derailleur is not a problem.
Consider putting it towards better tires or a case of your favorite brew.

I'll assume you currently have a long-cage Sora RD and triple crank. If so, don't use a short cage RD. It won't be able to effectively take up the slack while in the inner chainring.

Sora to Tiagra makes more sense in the shifter department than the derailer department.

chain length is determined by the size of the largest sprocket and largest chainring. If these remain the same, then ideal chain length remains the same.
