Adjusting threadless stem height with quill adaptor for threaded stem

Is it possible to adjust the height of a quill threadless adaptor as you would a quill stem? Would I run into any problems? Has anyone done this before?

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

Yes, you can vary the insertion length a bit. The range isn't huge but there is some.

There are a couple I have seen, from Velo Orange and Soma, that are long enough so that almost has to be the designer's intention for how they are used. IIRC the Soma one is 250mm+ in length. No reason I can see why it is not the same as using a long Nitto Technomic quilll stem to raise the bars. The ones I have seen have a minimum insertion depth marked on them, the same as a quill stem.

The one I have is Nashbar's house brand and the quill isn't very long, allowing maybe 2" of height adjustment.
