switching out rear derailleur. Advice on replacement
I have a damaged rear derailleur and have to switch it out. Front is a double crank. Rear is 8 cassette. Downtube Shimano shifters. It currently has this one-

either of the short cage Soras would be fine. your chain might not be long enough for the long cage model. The Tiagra will work too but you may have problems witht he DA.

I'd go with a Sora 3400 or Tiagra 4500 for "future proofing" should you want to go with 9spd later. Else, a derailleur is a derailleur unless you are racing.
