Zefal hpX pump doesn't lock.

I'm a fan of these pumps; have several, but for some reason one of them stopped locking. It doesn't matter where I point the arrow, the handle spring still compresses, which I suppose is better than being permanently locked, but still...does anyone know if there's a fix for this? It's not obvious how one would take the handle apart, and I wasn't able to find a schematic on the web or anything in the archives. Thanks.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

In my experience, when the internal locking mechanism dies, that's it. the good news is that you can use the pump for another century without the feature.

I've got the same problem with one of my Zefal HP-X pumps. The one that's broken is a size 4 and that's the length I'd like to use on my touring bike. I also have a properly working HP-X that's a size 2 (bought at a swap meet for $2). Is there a way for me to use the good parts from the smaller pump to fix the larger one? It's not clear how the handle should be disassembled.

Bikes: Road, Touring, BMX, Cruisers...

I just bought a new HPx and was very curious about the locking handle, considering the HP I have from '87 is still working and never had that feature. I wouldn't worry about it. As the previous poster said, it should work long after the "feature" is dead...

Agreed - I'm going to file this under "things to stop worrying about." Thanks for the replies.
