BB Swapping

I have a Salsa Vaya tourer with an XT external bearing BB and 9 speed XT crankset installed. All of the shims that came with the BB are in use.

I want to swap the BB/Crankset for an Ultegra BB and 9 speed Ultegra triple crankset.

Will the Ultegra setup use the same shims for the BB as the XT, or will I need fewer shims (or none)?

IF the XT is set up for 73mm BB shell, and IF the Ultegra is set up for 68mm shell, you will need 5mm less shims. 73mm is what a lot of MTB's are set up with, and 68mm is what most Road English BB's are set up for.

the road bb/crank setup is really only for 68mm bb shells and no shims

The Vaya has a 68mm shell. The shims are on with the XT BB to fill out a road-width shell to MTB proportions.

No shims is what I was hoping to hear. Thanks, y'all.
