Need help with rear derailleur

I was replacing the inner tube on my mums bike, so I took the rear wheel off and the derailleur... I replaced the inner tube, pumped it up, and installed it back on the bike. Then i installed the rear derailleur the same way It was before ( I took a picture before i took it apart) and for some reason it seem like the spring in the rear derailleur is inverted or something. Instead of it pulling towards the back to keep the chain tension, it folds up by it self.
The first picture is what happens when i leave it alone.
The second one is when i push against the tension...

Please help. I do not have a clue why this is happening.

Thanks in advance!

You will need to un-hook the chain and possibly remove the derailleur again. You need to compress the cage spring by turning the cage body one revolution counter clockwise, then install in on the bike and hook the chain into it again.

It might be easier to do this with the rear wheel off of the bike, leave the RD on the bike, un-threading the chain, tighten the spring by turning the cage as shown, thread the chain again, then reinstalling the rear wheel.

The derailleur should have a stop to prevent the cage from turning a full turn, but apparently yours doesn't. In any case you have to turn the cage between 1/2 to a full turn to the left to wind the spring so it'll try to unwind clockwise.

Since the chain is threaded already, you can achieve the same thing by removing the RD turning the body one full turn to the right so the cage is trying to tension the chain, then remount it.

For the next time mum has a flat, there's no need to remove the derailleur in order to remove the wheel.
