The other kind of thread.

I've got conti gator skins with kevlar.
1300 mi. no flats, great so far except
I just started to notice black threads
shedding off of tires near the rims.
Is this dangerous or what. I pulled one
off 3 ft. long. Now I just cut them off.
I checked, brake pads are not touching
tires. Any help, greatly appreciated.

Might just be the edge of the bead wrap over tape, fraying.
maybe some barge shoe repair glue will stop the fraying at its present amount .

My front one sheds thread every now and then. Found one wrapped up in the wheel bearings causing a bind, but no other problems other than that. It did'nt start this until a few years old. I tore the sidewall out of the back one before it was this old so the new back one is not shedding.

Won't bind the wheels anymore, new wheelset has Hope pro II hubs so nothing to get wrapped up in anymore

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

There's probably quite a bit that can unravel from the wrap over the bead without any consequences.

Like with clothing, as you see threads unraveling snip them off rather than pulling on them increasing the damage.
