Barcons- loose screw and slipping

New Shimano Barcons. Screw in right one works its way loose. Have retightened every 3 or so miles.
Should I add some red LocTite to the tip of the screw?

May have hit proper torque with my last attempt to tighten it, but don't want to be far from home with one gear in the mountains.

I've had that happen. You want that screw to be really, really tight. First, make sure the "friction/index" switch is all the way one way or the other. If it gets stuck in between (because the screw is loose) it'll break the index mechanism. Then, get the biggest screwdriver that will fit in the slot and tighten it for all you're worth. I've used T-handle screwdrivers on mine and they hold up fine.

I figured this out 20 years ago with my first set of 7-speed Shimano bar-cons. I still have that set, and they're still usable.
