Use IS-mount Formula disc brake as Post mount merely by ditching the adapter?

Hi guys,

(short format)If I buy an IS mount front disc brake, and ignore the adapter, can I then use it directly as a Post mount?

(Longer version)
As I understand it there is no need for an adapter to go between the fork leg and the caliper if you're using 160 mm rotors. So if I buy an IS mount front disc brake, and ignore the adapter it should fit straight on as a Post mount front.

Or are there some differences in calipers, or do the K24 need an adapter even for 160 mm rotors and Post mount?

Reason being there are still plenty of IS mount forks around, so getting hold of an adapter even if I'm not looking to use it right now would ensure some easy tinkering in case of a fork replacement.

Brake in question is a Formula ORO K24.

Cheers,

the k24 is post mount. to use it on a is fork you need an adapter. for a post mount fork and 160mm rotor no adapter.

Just to be extra clear before I press the "buy" button:
Current fork is Post Mount, I intend to start with 160 mm rotor.
The Formula K24 is available as Post mount and IS mount, both for 160 mm.
I buy the IS mount, ignore the adapter, maybe have to scrounge up some mounting screws, and it goes right on to my PM fork. The adapter can sit on a shelf in case I ever feel the urge to use the brake(with the same size rotor) on an IS forks.

Correct?

Thanks for your help and patience.

correct, almost every caliper made these days is a post mount. you can use the screws that mount the caliper to the adapter
