Where is the Serial Number on a Specialized?

There is no serial number under the bottom bracket of this 1996 Specialized M2 Pro

Under the BB or the dropout are common sites, may be under thick paint.

If the bike was stolen at one point, it's possible the serial number has been ground off and painted over.

I have a mid-'90s Specialized that has numbers on the inside of the left dropout (not sure if it's the serial # or not.) You might have to take off the rear wheel and clean up the area to read them.

The headtube is another possibility, but I doubt it.

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

Look under the bottom bracket plastic cable guide. I've found a bunch of serial numbers under them.

What he said. That's where it is on my BMC.
Anyone noticed some of the new bikes are cheaping out and putting them on a barcode label on the underside of the downtube now? Heatgun and the bike's untraceable. Bah.

Unless the barcode lable is under the clearcoat. That would make it hard to remove without obvious damage.

It was on the inside of the rear dropout, derailleur side. Thanks for saving me some searching time.
