Bolt size

Is the bolt size to bolt fenders or a rack to dropout eyelets a standard size? If so what is it? The bike I am trying to put a rack on is French, will that make a difference?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

There's no absolute standard, but something like 99% have metric 5x.8 threads, the same as water bottle bosses.

It's best to check, though; I've got 2 old Schwinns that use M6X1

99.999% of the bikes i've seen are m5, with the remaining .0001% m6.
