where to find old caliper brakes

I recently upgraded the components on an old steel framed bike I own, everything was pretty easy except that the brakes on it (which are shocking) have an 8cm reach on them, pivot to pad, and I can't find anything anywhere near that size being made at the moment. As a result I have a bike that goes really fast but won't stop. They also use massive bolts compared to modern bikes.

Does anybody make these sizes at the moment, and if not is there anyone in the UK or online who sells good quality old equipment that might fit.

Cheers

how about a few pics? what kind of bike and brakes did you start with? did you change from 27" to 700c wheels? findinf older/vintage long reach brakes can be a pain.

when you say the old bolt is massive do you mean diameter or the length?

Dia Compe makes sidepull brakes with a >8cm reach intended for BMX and similar bikes. I installed these on my granddaughter's 24" bike and they work well. Here is a USA source but you should be able to find these in the UK also. https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...e+Bulldog.aspx

Thanks for the advice. The bolts are long, though standard diameter, at present 8cm front and 6cm rear. I originally tried to put a set of Shimano Tiagra on, but they had neither the reach nor a long enough bolt. At present I just have some old side pull single pivot wiennmanns on it. However I reckon those Tektro R556 might make for a decent upgrade

Cheers
