Stripped Crank Arm Thread (pedal)
Last year I was new to cycling and purchased a pair of Shimano 105 pedals. Not knowing better I installed them incorrectly, i.e. left pedal on the right side and vice-a-versa. At the time of the install, the pedals seemed incredibly difficult to thread. So, I just gave it my all and started a thread by myself. -- Stupid.
So toady the left pedal finally gave way. Lucky it didn't break off completely, it just got loose.
I took both pedals out and my left crack arm is all jacked up, i.e. severe thread damage. So, is it possible to re-thread crack arms? Or do I need to buy new crack arms or just an excuse to buy a new bike.
Thanks in advance!

Take it to the LBS and they will let you know of they can tap it or not. If there are enough threads they can fix them, otherwise they will have to put a thing in it that has new threads (forget the name). Either way, they should be able to fix it, and don't worry, they won't want to do option number two, so you don't have to worry about them trying to get more labor out of you.

I would go with new cranks and consider it an expensive lesson. If you want to try to repair them the helicoil is one way to go. The threads on you pedals are 9/16X20.

Helicoil is a good fix. You will be good as new if the pedal threads are ok.

I`m not quite clear on this

If you did tha it won`t be an easy fix because one is threaded left-hand and the other right_hand. To repair BOTH would take some bike specific heli-coils and taps. Actually we were just discussing this kind of thing in another post.
And I`d find it hard to believe that there`s absolutely no damage to the pedal threads.
So what are we looking at?

Maybe I could ask you to clarify things. Did you actually install BOTH pedals incorrectly?

Hearing how bad it is to install pedals incorrectly, I surprised they lasted this long. Knew I got them in there nice and tight.
I've already purchased replacement Dura-Ace FC-7701 crankarms for $60 and now I'm looking for a replacement spindle for the left pedal -- those seem hard to find.
Or I might just get Speedplay pedals.

Cut your losses and get new pedals and cranks.

Fix Ought To Be Relatively Simple.
(unless I've missed something about
the feasibility of their use in this case)
If you've got someone around who knows
more than you, you can buy the damn
things and pop them in yourself.

At $120, It's still cheaper than new cranks
and pedals, and you can screw up 5 more
times.
Most respectfully,
Mike Larmer
