rd pivot bolt spring problem

I need to get the retainer ring with set screw back onto the rear derailleur. I had to remove the main pivot bolt that connects the rd to the bike to take out a burr and the retainer and spring also came out.

I don't have a vise or three buddies standing nearby and I've about chewed my fingers up trying to get that thing back in there. You have to insert the end of the spring into a hole in the rd frame, then insert the other end of the spring into the retainer ring. Then rotate this to get the stop on the retainer behind a stop on the rd AND have the pivot bolt come all the way through so you can slide in the lock washer to keep the whole thing from springing apart again.

Anyone have the secret to doing this?

Campy Record 9 speed with titanium bolt.

no, I don't have a camera handy for pics.

I used a small screwdriver as a lever to rotate the retainer against the spring tension until it got around the stop then used some big pliers to hold it all together so I could get the lock washer inserted. Just needed a couple of minutes away from fighting with it.

This forum is so good, you guys didn't even need to post; someone probably sent me the answer telepathetically.
