Campy 10(?) speed barcon conversion
Hello! I bought some Campy barcons a while back, and would like to put them to use. I suspect they are 10 speed, as the right shifter has 10 positions (ratchets 9 times). I'm currently running 8 speed veloce on my bike and my question is what is the cheapest way of making the two work together?
My currently plan of attack is to get an early 9 speed campy cassette, and then replace the innards of the barcon with a 9 speed index gear and spring. Any thoughts/corrections would be great.

Are these sealed Veloce hubs? What about just changing the freehub to a newer 10s freehub and getting a 10s cassette. I ordered what was billed as a Veloce 8s sealed bearing hub and found that the Mirage aluminum freehub fit perfectly (it was sealed bearing also). Mated that with the 10s Veloce cassette and chain and some centaur components
Another option is to see if a JTek Shiftmate would work with your planned combination, It would allow you to leave the barcon alone and just align the shifts, you just wouldn't pull the last 2 shifts. I use them on my bikes to mate a Shimano DT 10s shifter to the 10s Campy drivetrain (At the time I couldn't afford the barcons for two bikes and then still have to finagle the the rest of the downtube mounting sytem, but i am still looking for the parts)
Personally I would try to replace the freehub first and just go with the full 10s drivetrain since your still having to replace your cassette.

Yeah, that seems the most logical if I'm to replace my cassette anyway. After doing a little snooping on some other forums and past threads here, it looks like I'll be able to mate a a veloce/mirage freehub body to my current hub. The other groups changed axle width and won't be compatible.

I can get a brand new mirage 10 speed hub on ebay for $37 shipped... would it be worth going through a campy dealer to just buy a mirage freehub body? Or is that even possible?
