what is the cassette removal tool that will remove most bike cassettes? (looking for classification please - fr-**********)

Shimano? Fr-5 don't forget the chain whip!

It may still be possible re-use the wheel but at the loss of the freewheel. There are also current models of freewheels that do not have an adequate design for removal. If the image below, the freewheel has two very narrow and shallow notches that do not allow enough purchase for a tool. Removal of this type of freewheel would likely result in ruining the tool, the freewheel, or both. For either situation, see destructive removal of freewheels

This model of freewheel has no removal tool fittings of any type.

Also, note that while the FR-1 and FR-7 are listed as the same size, the Falcon freewheel splines are just -barely- larger than the Shimano splines. This is why Park Tools makes them in different colors.

AG, great reply, there seem to be a lot of questions about casettes where the hub is actually a freehub, this should answer for them as well

One thing to be aware of, the tool used for Campy cassette lockrings is also the tool used to remove their older square taper cartridge bottom brackets so Park lists it as BBT-5 (Bottom Bracket Tool -5) as a bottom bracket tool.

Do not confuse the BBT-5 used for Campy cassette lock rings with FR-5, the tool used for Shimano and similar cassette lock rings.

I should add that the FR-5 for cassette lockrings also works for 12 spline shimano-type freewheels. I've used my Point Tools equivalent of the FR-5 on some pretty stubborn freewheels and it did the job without sustaining damage. I thought some people may want to know this and save a couple of bucks.
