Centrepull brakes

I've been seeking to increase the stopping power of a set of Weinmann centrepulls, and after trying the usual tricks (cleaned and trued rims, new pads and cables etc.) I'm still not satisfied. I seem to recall someone on here talking about modifying centrepull brakes so that the straddle cable is adjustable, like the one on a cantilever brake. Presumeably, this then allows the mechanical advantage of the brake to be adjusted as with a cantilever brake. Does anyone have any more information on this mod, and does it seem like it would help in my situation?

Thanks in advance

there have been bracer plates, made for center pulls too.. ,
reduce pivot bolt spread.
the screw fitting cable end, will let you experiment,
with length of cable changes..
