Please help me with stem selection...

I have a Windsor Tourist from bikesdirect.com. I want to replace the stock stem with a Nitto Technomic. Do I need the 25.4mm version, or the 26mm version?

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

1 measurement is worth 1,000 guesses.

1. Wrap a piece of paper around the shank of your stem and mark where it overlaps.
2. Measure to the mark in millimeters.
3. divide by 3.14.

I think the bar that you are using should be measured, not the stem. 26mm and 25.4mm refer to the interior diameter of the clamp, not the outer diameter of the stem. But you can use that method to measure your bar diameter at the clamp. I'm not familar with the term shank in reference to a quill stem.

The 25.4mm / 26mm for Nitto stem refers to the handlebar size, nothing to do with the fork / steerer tube, your handlebar should have the size stamped / printed on it, match to that.

quick answer: prolly the 26.0. Longer answer: measure the clamp diameter on the bar (not the stem.)
