Felt F1 frameset compatibility
Hey guys, I currently ride a Masi Gran Criterium, newish, probably 2007, not to sure...
anyways, im running dura-ace 7800, carbon crank, carbon seatpost, etc, all up fairly good components. Looking at racing again so want to step the bike up a lot.
I dont want to sell the bike as i wouldnt get that much and i've spent a bomb on all all the compnents. I've decided to switch the alloy frame with a carbon frame, one of great quality, a high-end model, and hence have bought a new Felt F1 frame (2010) for a really good price. The resulting bike should be pretty high standard with the frame and new carbon reynolds wheels which i will be buying once this frame build is complete.
My plan is to switch all the components from the Masi to the Felt. Im picking the frameset up this weekend but want to get everything else sorted so i can build the bike over one weekend. I have experience in bikes but not in advanced stuff like headsets and hence will get my LBS to instal the headset I think. unless someone wants to teach me...
I know i need to buy a new braze-on front derailleur as im running a clamp on, but other then that what will the major problems i will encounter, BB? headset? Cable lengths? (seat post is 27.2, fits).
Is BB my only concern now? if so, how to check sizing and compatibility.
Sorry for the length of the post, just started a new account and have a lot to ask...
Thanks

It looks like both bikes are standard 68mm English BB shell so crankset/BB shouldn't be an issue. Personally, I'd install new cables and housings (why not start off with new) but you can probably make what you have work depending on location of cable stops on the two frames.

Unless you go DI2, all your current parts will be basic to low end for the Felt frame, for the headset, if you don't have experience in fitting a frame costing severals thousand $ is not the place to start on.
Why not keep the old bike as a spare / wet weather bike as you are going to make a loss what you have put into it.

Well the thing i didn't pay 3k for the frameset (payed 1k), I know a few people and also would not pay 1.5k for the wheels ($550). I dont have that kind of money to go splashing around. Honestly I'm fine with 7800 I can't justify moving up with the huge price gap. Buying all parts from scratch would break the bank, hence all I'm doing is 'switching' frames as such, fitting all the masi's components on felt. Down the track I will upgrade the groupset and wheels, when it's a nessesity
.
Just want to know the process of switching frames, I know it's a total rebuild but yeah, certainly not going to start learning about headsets on a 3k carbon frame eek, lbs can do it.
Any tips/info would be appreciated, I'm doing this project mainly to have a greater depth on knowledge about my bike and bikes in general.
Thanks

But keeping the old bike as a spare would infer buying complete copenents for the new felt frame, groupset, wheels, crank, handlebars, seatpost saddle etc etc etc. That equals serious money, which I dont have. The masi frame is old, not worth much at all, I've got another training bike my DBR so I think I'm just going to hang the masi frame up and replace it with the felt.
Seems the best option?
