hi guys, new to this forum just had a question on drop bar conversion . i have a flat bar on my bike right now with grip shifters. so far what i have on my list to buy

drop bar handlebars
drop brake levers
bike stem

and i just had a question about the shifters. i have notice that the drop bar shifters are quite expensive . however i found these

i want to know if i can use these and mount them to the stem. or do i have to get drop bar shifters?

Those are sized for a 9/8" down tube location. I expect..

some people dont want to bend over .

Look at used, bar end levers ,
or you can use A similar budget Thumb shifter set, with a band clamp.
on the top-center of drop bars ,
the typical Road bar is 23+mm just off the center , where its 26mm

Not sure if those are sized for 1 1/8 inch downtube. Specs lower down on the page pointed to by the link say 22.2mm with cable. "Product Description

That's definitely a stem mount and will fit standard hbar stems. So they should work. The thumb shifters for the top bar can be found also. Falcon and SunRace make some friction ones that clamp down.

depends on mechanical aptitude , have you replaced any cables on any bike before?

what kind of bike do you have? if you have grip shifters that means you have index shifting right? do you really want to go retro and have friction shifting?

I think you should look at indexing bar end shifters.

Chibibike did a nice pseudo-conversion by putting on drop bar ends. Sounds like a lot less hassle than swapping out the bar.

mine has thinner wheels, and no i have not replaced any cables on the bike.
i did come across on those bar end add ons on amazon, they do look pretty good with tape added. the add ons are my plan b . to add the bar ends i would have to buy a flat bar and the add ons correct ? do you think i will need a different neck ?

No. if your bike is like the one posted, you already have what's pretty much a flat bar. Sure, there are those that are flatter still, but why not start out with what you've got?

There's really no telling. If you fit drop bar brake levers and want to ride on the hoods, then that'll put your hands further ahead. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends entirely on how the bike fits you right now.

alright thanks. yes it seems less of a hassle to just getting the drop bar ends. i hadn't seen em taped they look great.
