The rest of the frame seems ok, though I should probably examine it a bit more to see if any other problems present themselves. I think the frame is the right size and geometry for the city/commuter bike I want to build, and I'd rather use this one than wait for another one in my size to show up and pay the $75-$200 it would likely cost around here.

I like the idea of welding a bar to it, but I don't think me or my dad have the skill to make a strong enough weld with the crappy welder he has. I might see if someone else has one that will work though. I think I could do the dremel idea though, I'll try that when I get the chance. Unfortuantely I'm pretty busy the next few days, so it might be awhile before I have a real update.

And since the OP will wind up buying a new BB for it anyway,m the worst possible outcome, if/when the old BB finally comes out and a LBS cleans up the threads, is that he may have to use a 'damaged thread' bottom bracket. But with a sturdy steel frame like the 820 even that is unlikely.

Well you learn something everyday. I didn't even know that such a thing as a "damaged thread" bottom bracket even existed. I've only every cross threaded one bottom bracket and that was long, long, long ago.

However, it's unfortunate that you can't see the picture. I'm not sure how anyone gorillaed that fixed cup into place. It looks like it has a 2 to 3mm gap on one side while the other side is flush with the bottom bracket shell. It even looks like the fixed cup is bent. I'd suspect that the bottom bracket shell has been ovalized. It's going to be a bugger to get out.
