Do I Need To Tighten?

Hi, Ive just started working on my own bike instead of sending it in for repairs, i have a question however, my rear cassette is a shimano acera. i took off the wheel and found the locking bolt for the hub is loose(ish). should i tighten it (will a casette too do that) or something else?

Are you referring to the lockring that hold the cassette to the freehub body? The lockring sits on the end of the cassette and looks like this:
