Gear Problems

I have a Specialized Allez (1999), and i noticed one thing when i shift first chainring into second it grinds and doesn't change unless i slap shifter second time it will change, between second to third gear it changes flawlessly... any ideas?

EDIT: it's 105 shimano components if its helps

Are you talking about shifting on the chainrings or on the cassette.
If chainrings it sounds like you need to adjust the cable tension.
If cassette it could be cable tension or a need to replace the cables and cable housings, especially the short housing at the rear derailleur. Or you may need to clean the dirt out of the shifters with WD40.

on the downtube there are adjuster you can use back off 1/8 -1/4 of a turn at a time until the shifting is smooth .

I couldn't get it right, and front derailleur refuses to move all way back to first chainring

So, you are running a triple? Was this stock or did you change somthing recently?

yes I am running a triple, It's all stock except the stem and drop bars

This sounds like you need to reduce the cable tension. Turn the barrel adjuster clockwise.
Set the low limit screw according to instructions found at www.parktool.com.

Thanks will try that, and is it possible to convert triple to double chainrings?
I never use third chainring but i got good deal on bicycle that i couldn't pass up

EDIT: it's 105 shimano components

Not sure why you'd want to do that, but you can set the limit adjustments so you are using just two of them.
