Went through a viscious rain storm with my bike (and my wifes ) on top. I have never overhauled dura ace components before and was just sitting here wondering whether a tool or whips are used to remove the cogs so i may repack the rear bearings. any thoughts or tips on this ---it is the 9 speed . thanks

Whip and a tool needed

You'll need a chain whip and a cassette lockring tool to remove the cassette. If you remove the rear wheel and look at the cassette you'll see the lockring. It has splines which a lockring tool keys into. Use the whip to hold back on the cassette and turn the lockring tool counter-clockwise. Park and Shimano both make lockring tools. My favorite is the Shimano TL-HG16. It has a pin that slides into the axle (where the QR goes) and helps keep everything in line when removing or installing the lockring. You should be able to find one at your LBS. Happy wrenching!

Dura ace cassette

I use to have a dura ace cassette, i i usually lube my hubs the front and the rear hubs after 200 k, and these way they alwayz work like new, but last July 2000 i upgraded my wheels to a mavic cosmic elite, and i think i didn"t made a mistake in choosing these mavic wheels, well goin back to disassembling your rear hubs, you need a chain whip, a a shimano hyperglide locknut tool, and an adjustable wranch, and just follow what it says on the locknut ring and cone wrench size 17mm, and 15mm and a good grease, and you will be a happy camper, and happy riding to!!!
