Fulcrum Wheel w/Ultegra Cassette Ping Noise

I have an '05 Lemond Zurich with an Ultegra 6703 Triple and full 6700 Ultegra components - except Dura Ace brake calipers. I previously had 6600 components and upgraded to Fulcrum Racing 1 clincher wheels. Immediately after the switch to the new Fulcrum wheels, using my old 6600 cassette, I had a ping noise from the rear wheel when I apply power by pedaling from a coasting situation. I took the bike back to my LBS and they completely disassembled the cassette and hub, found no problems and reassembled the wheel. the ping noise was still there. shortly after that, I upgraded my entire bike with a new 6703 crank, cassette, shifters, front derailleur and Dura Ace brake callipers. The ping noise was still present when applying power from a coast situation. My LBS says the noise is made when the freewheel and hub engage and is not a problem, just an anoying noise. Any ideas, suggestions, tips?

It's been my experience that the hub engagement noise is more of a 'clunk' type rather than a ping. The 'ping' noise, sort of a bell-like sound, most often comes from the spokes. As an experiment, try putting a small drop of oil on each location where the spokes cross and touch each other.

Let us know if that works.

Shimano?? probably wont help you but with some wheels using shimano u have to put a spacer or the RD will touch the spokes and who knows what else happens.

And yes I agree with the shop and the previous poster. I had a set of easton vista that did the same thing. In that wheel when coming back from coasting u had to do like a 1/4 of a turn (maybe less) to get the pawls to grab or engage the wheel again, then U get that clunk empty metallic sound if you are an aggressive rider, i figure it out with the vistas to just do some stuff very smoothly to stop the sound.

Not familiar with that wheel u have but probably thats the issue. Other wheels like campagnolo record or miche rc2 hubs you just pedal like 1 degree and the thing engages the wheel right away, no sound what so ever.
