I wouldn't have thought that-they are smooth on the back. Thanks for the quick reply.

What does the other side of the ring look like? Are we looking at the backs of the assist pins which are on the other side?

Yep, those are the shift assist pins. The "heads" on the inner face of the chain ring are what do the job.

thanks While I'm here-what type (besides being sq taper) are the inverted cups on the bb? I'm used to the old style. Anyone have an exploded diagram or pic of the bb apart? I'll get another pic or 2.

Seems like a bad design/dirt catcher.

I think it's because there may be a mismatch of BB and crank in your photos. (IIRC) The Mirage BB for that crank didn't use that type of cup....The cup should be flanged with 6 scalloped cut-outs. Campy never had such a splined cup design. That resembles a Shimano/ISIS splined cup. You'll probably need a Shimano spec BB tool to remove it.

Makes sense a shimano crank should be on it-apparently the mirage was put on it. I've never dealt with this type bb before. I'll look up the tool-thank you. (Panasonic dx1000)
