more bike pump problems
ok our hurricane bike pump from Performance was giving me leakage problems, they sent me a new nozzle, it seals good now but when you pump it it seems fine for like 3 pumps then you have to pushe REAL hard and it goes way up on the gage then you have to wait a second until it settles....

Lousy floor pumps are nothing but trouble.
If you intend to be a cyclist for a long time, then research and buy an A+ floor pump. I have two Lezyne pumps I am really satisfied with. And I have had every crappy floor pump you can imagine. The problem is always the same, they start nicely and start leaking at the chuck quickly.

+1 on the Lezyne. I do also have a Blackburn which had a miserable air chuck; Blackburn has a new design which is much better, but the screw-on Lezyne air chuck I find far superior.

I bought a standard version of this with the brass schrader/presta head 20 years ago and it's still working. 10 years ago I bought the SuperPista with a dedicated presta head. About a week ago I blew the leather washer and simply replaced it with a spare I had just for the occasion. It took about 10 minutes (mostly to find it) and it was good to go for another 10 years.

Edit: OP- Oh, and fietzbob is right. when you loosen the presta valve you also need to press down on the valve so you hear a little pop of air to break the air pressure seal. I've experienced this numerous times (occasionally it's because I forgot to loosen the valve).
