Used Bike - Gear componenets do not match?
Hello,
I have a use bike with mismatched components that I am trying to get running smoothly.
As far as I can tell the bike has ultegra sti shifters and an ultegra front derailuer that are both intended for a triple crankset (3 clicks on the sti shifters). Right now the bike has a two speed fsa crankset and I am having trouble shifting with the front deraileur, it always rubs against the crank and I can't shim it either way.
Any advice? I was thinking about wither buying a new crank or trying to add a new ring to the crank I have now.
Thanks for the help.

Some Shimano STIs have three clicks and are for 2 chain rings. The third click is for triming when you start to cross chain to much. Look up the parts number on the left shifter and see what it was made for. Roger

Thanks for the reply.
The parts I have are:
shimano sti (left and right): st-6510
rear deraileur: rd-6500
front deraileur: fd-6503
crank: fsa isis drive 53/39
I'm looking up the manufacturer's info now

IIRC and based on Shimano's tech documents, the ST-6510 was double and triple compatible. The FD-6503 is a triple front derailleur. There is no reason your brifters can't shift a double crank if it's set up properly. The front derailleur cage is a bit wider than needed but should still work fine.

Yea, those tech documents are helpful. I'm going to see if I can set it up better and if not try to find a used fd-6500.
Thanks for the help
