Chain question
I have a shimano 10 speed chain that I want to remove from the bike and give an extra good cleaning to. Can I use a Scram quick link on a shimano chain to reattach? I have both a 9 and 10 speed quick link, as someone once told me something about using a 9 speed link on a 10 speed chain, but I don not remember for sure. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You need a 10-speed master link but the SRAM "Powerlock" link is a bit too narrow to fit a Shimano chain properly and, for reasons not completely clear, SRAM says these links are not reusable. You could use a KMC or Wippermann 10-speed link and they will fit properly.

I found this in my notes from a previous post:
"FYI, the SRAM 10 Powerlock will fit Campy 10 chain, but not a Shimano 10 chain. A KMC missing link or the Wipperman connex link marked 10 SPEED (not 10S1) will fit a Shimano 10 chain.

almost like new
To clarify, KMC makes three 10 speed missing links:
CL559 - for Shimano, Sram
CL559R - for Shimano and Sram...but R = reusable
CL559C - for Campy

CL559C - for Campy

Oh, the SRAM Powerlock will work on a Shimano chain, but it will make a subtle click each time it goes around that will drive you crazy trying to figure out what it is, uh, yeah, well, moving on then; once you figure that out, I mean once my "friend" figured that out, he simply got a pack of ten KMC quicklinks off Amazon and those work great.
