Gap at bottom of headset between seal and bottom cup
1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
Just noticed this tonight and it is bugging the crap out of me. I have a Cane Creek 110 threadless headset installed on my Salsa Vaya. There is a noticable, approximately 2mm gap between the crown race and cup. Is this normal? I would think this should be flush, with the seal pressed up into the cup to protect the bearing. The top of the headset also has a seal, and it fits snugly into the top cup. See picture: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=247578 |
Nope, you got some parts mis match.. crown race seat
may be hitting the inner race of the Bearing cartridge. or you put the parts together in the wrong order. Or , ... |
I had the LBS install the headset. Hmmmm.

headset otherwise not loose, or is that from lifting the frame and that
the wheel off the ground, and that is loose slop? cant help any more remotely .. go back to the shop. |

UGH.
Put it on the stand, removed stem, pulled off spacers, pulled out steerer, and there was a 2mm spacer between the race and the lower cup. WTF???? Removed the spacer and voila, problem solved. Thanks for the quick replies. I'm still a novice and everyone here is always so helpful. |
wait, what? they put a 2mm generic spacer between the race and the lower cup? Why in the world would a LBS do that? \

I have no idea. It is a Cane Creek Interlok spacer, so it fit up in there perfectly. Definitely not something I provided them with.
