Replacing Bottom Bracket: Spindle Stuck

I'm attempting to replace a high-mileage Ultegra (6600) bottom bracket. I've not done this before.

I removed the non-drive crank arm without too much difficulty, but then issues emerged. I am unable to pull the crank spindle out the drive side.

The non-drive bearing cup has largely disintegrated. While I was trying to work the crank out, a ring came loose and the little balls fell out. It appears there's something affixed to the non-drive splined end which is catching and preventing the axle from sliding through.

Any ideas what to do? I tried light hammering on the end to no avail. I'm not sure how much sideways stress I can put on a carbon frame.

Can you thread the left cup out of the frame? That'll give you some wiggle room.

I tried that briefly, but it didn't budge. I thought I might need to take the crank out first, since the videos I watched all followed that sequence. But I guess that order shouldn't matter, should it?

This is a wrenche's nightmere. I suspect that your BB is seized in the shell. Now it sounds like it's also partially taken (broken) apart. BTW this usually is a result of poor installation prep and less in use servicing. Mix in rain and or salt ane here you are. Is your frame Alu. in the shell too?

Brute force, chemical, and thermal are your wepons. I would first use force. Consider the crank and Bb toast. Wail on the crank axle with a larger hammer (as said before). If you're lucky the spindle will break loose of the cup, or the cup will crack off the shell. Chemical methods are penetration fluids. Oil, ATF are two that come to mind. Paint could suffer. Heat has the problem of the epoxy near by. Andy.

I certainly hope the crank isn't toast.

I did manage to unscrew the left cup much of the way off the threads. But the spindle still doesn't want to push through, so it's not come completely off yet. I haven't used much force with the hammer, for fear of damaging the frame.

Rubber mallet or a dead blow with a block of wood against the end of the NDS, and hit it harder.

If you can clamp the frame in some way for some stability, that would be good, wouldn't worry about damaging the crank, they are plenty tough enough, would avoid heat, and chemicals, if the crank can rotate, it's not stuck by corrosion.

I used a hammer and succeed in removing the crank. It was all dry and flaky inside the BB area.

Assuming that there's no damage, when reassembling, I need to apply grease to:

(1) The threads used to install the cups

(2) Inside where the axle spins

(3) ??
